BRRFOC/TROC meets the waste disposal and recycling needs of 16 member towns across central Connecticut by delivering environmentally safe and cost-effective disposal services. Each day, our solid waste disposal and energy generating facility in Bristol, Connecticut, transforms about 600 tons of solid waste into 16.3 megawatts of renewable energy that powers local homes and businesses.
We strive to maintain strict compliance with Connecticut’s air, water and solid waste regulations, which establish stringent standards designed to minimize emissions and impacts on the environment. By using state-of-the-art technology, we safely burn garbage and trash with fewer emissions than nearly all conventional fossil-fuel fired technologies used in American power plants. Waste-to-energy has the added benefit of conserving space in landfills, and eliminating byproduct methane gas that has twelve times the greenhouse gas warming effect of carbon dioxide.
Since the beginning, we have processed:
- 2.6 million tons of solid waste
- 172,000 tons of newspaper, cans, bottles, and cardboard 18,000 household hazardous waste participants
