Connecticut currently diverts 30 percent of its solid waste from disposal through recycling. The state plans to increase that to 49 percent by 2024. Besides saving space in our landfills, recycling prevents the materials from generating the dangerous methane gas that accumulates.
TROC recovers corrugated cardboard, newspaper, and other paper products; plastic, steel, aluminum and glass. Newspaper is by far the most prevalent material, and TROC receives about 9,000 tons a year from member communities.
